I remember when a certain Chanel sneaker caught my eye a few years ago. Not because it was classic or feminine, but because it was what I perceived at the time to be straight up “ugly.” The thick soles had me reminiscent of the white sneakers my dad used to wear in the 90s and early 2000s. Fast forward to nearly 20 years later and thick soled sneakers are front and center again and taking over street styles.
Last January, Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia debuted the Triple S sneaker and since then, other fashion houses have come out with their own rendition of the ugly sneaker, i.e. Louis Vuitton’s SS18 sneakers, Calvin Klein’s Lace-up sneakers, and Vetement’s Reebok Instapump.
Edit: I recently added these to my shoe closet.
